Extra book - Three Cups of Tea

After a special moment in my life, where I reached a turning-point, this book was the inspiration that gave me the strength to start changing my steps into the educational field and take this course at the Malaga´s University.

I wanted to include the book in this blog as a tribute to the outstanding job of Greg Mortensen on Education in such dangerous countries as Afganistan and Pakistan.

"Three cups of tea" is about the determination of a man to promote Education and Peace. In 1993 after his failure to climb K2 he arrives exhausted to a pour village in Pakistan where he is helped to recover by their humble people. He realizes they were so pour they couldn´t even afford to pay the salary of a teacher for their children (1 euro per day). He promised he would help to build them a school.

Once in the States he wrote hundreds of letters to important people to contribute to his cause. He took a long time and efforts to get the money to build in 1996 the Korphe School. Not without being kidnapped by extremists, suffering death threads and the separation of his wife and children. Since then he has created a foundation called CAI (Central Asia Institute) and already established 78 schools, with the priority of educationg girls, where more than 54.000 students have had access to education so far.

Greg is convinced that when you educate a boy you change a life but when you educate a girl you change a community. I believe that anyone involved in Education should read this extraordinary story of amazing determination.

There is also a younger's edition to use in class readings.
